A 39 year old Iranian woman, stormed the Youtube headquarters in anger, and shot three workers before killing herself!
This woman, identified by police as Nasim Najafi Aghdam, was found dead when they arrived, two minutes after being alerted. She had shot herself just around 1pm, following her gory acts at the Youtube headquarters in San Bruno, California. Eye witnesses reported that Nasim stormed into the building and shot three staff, two women and a man. Immediately people heard gunshots, they began to run for their lives.
Several Youtube workers took to Twitter to give updates on what was happening. Some employees fled the building while others barricaded themselves inside. Nasim was reported to be holding a “huge weapon” and seemed to know who she wanted to shoot. The witnesses said that Nasim particularly shot a man as her first victim.
Local news even reported that she was probably a friend to the victims. However, police have officially shared that there is no evidence to prove a relationship between her and the victims.
In the mean time, the victims, a 36-year-old man and two women, aged 32 and 27, are in critical, serious and fair conditions respectively.
According to Dianna Arnspiger, a Youtube employee, she ran to the window when she heard the shots. In the courtyard she saw Nasim. “It was a woman and she shot. I just said Sagittarius, and everyone ran away.”
Another employee, Zach Vorhies, said he also saw Nasim face-to-face in the courtyard as she screamed, “Come to me, or come and get me!”. Lying beneath her, was a person with a bleeding stomach wound.
“Come to me, or come and get me!”- Nasim screamed in the courtyard, after she had shot someone in the stomach
But the pressing question is, how did Nasim get here?
Apparently, Nasim was an ardent Youtuber before all this. She had managed a number of accounts in several languages including English and Turkish. On her channels, she spoke about her Vegan lifestyle, Persian cultures and as well, was a passionate activist for animal conservation. In 2009, Nasim criticized animal cruelty in a protest by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals against the use of pigs in military trauma training. In a story by San Diego Union-Tribune, she said, “For me, animal rights equal human rights”.
Surprisingly, Nasim had quite the number of subscribers and per Youtube’s policy, one should get paid for their views. However, after a while, Nasim claimed her Youtube income began to decline. She accused the corporation of manipulating her views by placing “censorship” on her videos, in addition to paying her far less than she deserved for her views. Nasim went on a rant, stating that after getting 366,591 views in 28 days, Youtube only paid her 10 cents!
She went on a rant on her website, Nasimesabz.com
On her website, Nasim said:
“Be aware!! Dictatorship exists in all countries, but with different tactics. By caring for their own short-term profit, they are doing everything in their power to achieve their goals – even by fooling simple-knit people, hiding the truth, manipulating science and risking public, mental and physical health, not human Exploiting animals, polluting the environment, destroying family values, propagating materialism and sexual degeneration in the name of freedom … and turning people into programmed robots.”
“There is no free speech in real world & you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system… There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!”- Nasim added in her rant
“Make the lie big, Make it simple, Keep saying it, And eventually they will believe it” Adolf Hitler… There is no free speech in real world & you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered & merely relegated, so that people can hardly see their videos! There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!This video got age restricted after new close-minded youtube employees, got control of my farsi youtube channel last year 2016 & began filtering my videos to reduce views & suppress & discourage me from making videos!”
Out of anger, Nasim left her home two days before the shooting and did not return even once. According to her father, Ismail Aghdam, her family had reported her missing after she had refused to answer calls. The police found her sleeping the night before the attack in her car in Mountain View, near the YouTube offices. They informed her father and apparently, he told authorities that he feared she might be heading to YouTube because she “hated” the company. Mountain View police spokeswoman, Katie Nelson, however did not confirm or decline having knowledge of this information.
