Bahamas has been hit by a very deadly hurricane called Dorian. A number of lives have been lost, and thousands more displaced so far. However, as millions around the world are keeping the faith and #prayingforbahamas, some ‘influencers’ have been busy for wrong reasons. Users are accusing them for sharing ‘hollow’ tributes to the country, and clout chasing.

Their condolences do not seem ‘genuine’ enough
Hurricane Dorian blasted the Bahamas with winds of up to 300km/h and unleashed major flooding as thousands of people climbed into their roofs to escape the rising water. In fact, over 13,000 people have lost their homes to the worst hurricane The Bahamas has seen in decades.
But while heartfelt messages are pouring in on the internet, some Insta stars have used this as an opportunity to post throwbacks of their “bikini-clad pictures.”
“In some of the most tone-deaf pictures, Instagrammers offer their ‘thoughts and prayers’ in captions alongside pictures of them lounging on white sand beaches and sitting in front of crystal-clear water,” NZ Herald wrote.
One well-known influencer with over 500,000 followers has been heavily criticized for joining the bandwagon too.
Others tried to promote brands within the posts!
Things looked even worse for some influencers who tagged brands within their tribute poses.
One of them started with a “my heart aches as I sit here and hear the news and see the video of Hurricane Dorian” message; and somewhere in the comments she tagged the bikini brand she was wearing!
Again, a fitness influencer captioned “thinking about the country I love,” but made sure to use so many fitness hashtags, before dropping one for Bahamas in there.
Users were very unimpressed
“This is a very odd photo to choose to show your concern for the Bahamas,” one person wrote.
“It honestly seems more like you’re using the hashtag for a tragedy as self promotion.”
“Imagine using a disaster like Dorian to flaunt your a** on Instagram.”
This raunchy photo of an Insta model pushing out her butt seems to have garnered the most angry comments on Instagram.
One disapproving user said: “This is disgusting, delete this”.
“Here’s a picture of my a** to prove how much I’m praying for the safety of this beautiful country,” another angry one added.
The Bahamas is in true danger
Meanwhile, the powerful sea storm that hit on Monday, is said to have claimed 5 lives, hurled cars and ruined several thousand homes. Even rescue crews have no choice but to seek shelter.
“We are in the midst of a historic tragedy,” Bahamas’ Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said.
He called the devastation “unprecedented and extensive”.
Sending our prayers to the beautiful island country 🙏🙏
