What the!? A Chinese blogger was found dead, moments after collapsing to a meal of LIVE centipedes and geckos. The 35-year-old blogger, who goes by the surname Sun also live-streamed the entire thing. Reports say his actions were fueled by a dare during a drinking game. Sigh.
Sun died from a concoction of liquor and poisonous bugs
Sun was a popular content creator on the Chinese live-streaming platform DuYuo, boasting over 15,000 followers. But a drinking game took a different turn, leading to his death.
According to Xinan Evening News, the vlogger was playing his part in a dare from his friends. And this is how it went:
While filming live, Sun spun a wheel, which was marked with several unpleasant items. Depending on what the spinner landed on, Sun would be forced to either ingest a shot of liquor, or any of the other items including centipedes, geckos, mealworms, vinegar and raw eggs.
Unfortunately, his spinners landed on centipedes, geckos and eventually mealworms. He also drank vinegar, beer and a local liquor called baijiu in the video.
At almost 8pm on Thursday — while the cameras rolled, the Chinese blogger collapsed.
Local media reports that the first on the scene was his girlfriend, horrified at the sight of his lifeless body.
“When police finally arrived, the camera was still rolling, and Sun had passed away, with the food items used in his streaming sessions still on the desk in his room”, Vto.co reported.
Chinese blogger dies after eating live bugs on LIVE stream!
While a formal cause of death is yet to be established, authorities have ruled out foul play.
However, this isn’t the first time that a man has died after eating geckos. Earlier this month, an Australian man named David Dowell lost his life, after he swallowed a gecko as part of a bet during a Christmas party in December of 2018.
He was rushed to hospital the next day when he complained of diarrhoea, stomach cramps and a high fever. He was first diagnosed with gastroenteritis, but doctors later found that he had contracted the salmonella virus.
