One of the top influencer mothers on Instagram, Clemmie Hooper, has just deleted her account. Why? Well it looks like she could not her handle critics. After being accused by several people of exploitation, she suspended her account!
Clemmie’s- ‘@mother_of_daughters’, account had gathered over 500K followers. She was known for regularly posting sponsored ads with her daughters as the focus. Moreover, her husband, Simon @father_of_daughters, is even more insta-famous with over 840K followers! They have both collaborated with top brands like Renault UK, Visit Florida and more. In addition, they have both successfully written and published three books on parenting. So the question is, why did she get bashed?
Even though not confirmed, many presume that certain ‘hurtful’ comments on Instagram drove Clemmie to this point. Fans and followers have heavily attacked her for “‘exploiting’ her kids and posting ‘ethically dubious’ material”. This is no different from what most ‘Insta-mums’ face everyday on the internet. However, it seems like this time ‘critics’ went too far. One week before she closed her IG, Clemmie took part in a discussion by Mumsnet. This is where it all started…
“I think in the future, Instagram influencers who use and exploit their children for money will feel really ashamed that they did that and wish they’d used other means”
Influencer Mum leaves Instagram
Some users of Mumsnet lashed out at Clemmie, saying what she does is “morally wrong” as her kids cannot give consent. “The way I see it, any use of children in advertising without them being signed up to an external agency who handle their booking and finances is morally wrong”, one user said. “I think in the future, Instagram influencers who use and exploit their children for money will feel really ashamed that they did that and wish they’d used other means”, another added.
Clemmie responded before deleting her account
“I don’t feel I ‘sell’ my children to make money, I actually hardly ever feature the older girls and have changed my approach when working with brands eg I won’t feature a picture of my children alone for an AD and I always ask ‘do they need to be in the post at all?”, Clemmie shot back. She added, “I said I hardly ever feature them. They also see and give consent to any post where there are in the picture.” Obviously, Clemmie was unhappy about these comments.
“I don’t feel I ‘sell’ my children to make money… I hardly ever feature them. They also see and give consent to any post where there are in the picture”.
Shortly after this, the Instagram mum vanished from Instagram
Nonetheless, the 33-year old mother works one day a week as a midwife. Some think she’s probably just taking some time off the internet to pay attention to her other job. Other fans really miss her and leave messages on her husband’s Instagram.
“I’ve just read your wife’s brilliant piece in June’s Red mag & came on here looking to follow her but through reading comments I see she is taking a break sadly. Evidently she is very missed! Pls tell her what a brilliant piece it is, so true & I do hope she is back soon on Instagram x”, a user commented.
“I miss clemmie ❤❤❤”. “Clemmie Hooper – you are more powerful than you think you are, you are missed, come back soon.”
