Vanlife Sagas, as they’re called on Instagram, put their all in this lifestyle. Only to be slapped with reality a year after.

Dominic ‘Dom’ Faucher and Mariepier ‘Marie’ Bastlen revealed to Daily Mail UK, that they spent one year and CAD$28,700 to convert their ‘2014 Dodge Ram Promaster into a mobile home and office’. Yes, they both have careers– Dom a creative expert, and Marie soon to grab her PhD.

This is it folks, our lovely home on wheels, built with the tremendous help of our dads.

And their plan was pretty perfect– spend the next few years touring the world, while living as a normal couple.

Yet today, Dom says, “Here are a few reality checks we often give people thinking about van life: It is not glamorous (although it looks like it on Instagram); it is not cheap; it is not easy; and it is not comfortable”.

But on the bright side, the couple is hopeful on their new journey

Now that their van is ready, the two are pretty hopeful about this new step in their lives. They told the publication that they are already used to van life.

“I was raised in a 1985 Ford Corsair motorhome with my brother and sister,” Dom said. “The road was kind of our second home since both my parents were in the military. We travelled and moved around a lot, so it became convenient to have our own home on wheels.”

In fact, the couple’s fathers helped them refurbish with the van! So it’s more of an ‘all hands on deck’ situation. Furthermore, the duo plan to fund their adventures with earnings from their docu-series; ‘Vanlife Sagas’.

“Driving around every day and being outside is the best way to find new ideas. Living on the road is an excellent source of inspiration and helps your brain to stay active.”

Finally, despite the challenges, their documentary promises to be ‘real’. Marie and Dom plan to show the good, the bad and the ugly.

“Our documentary has a clear mission: understand why people leave their normal life to live on the road. Is there a typical van lifer? What does he or she look like? Is the hype all about beautiful pictures on Instagram? What are the main struggles of a home on wheels?”
