The Instagram egg, which went viral three weeks ago, has turned up again. This time, the egg isn’t breaking any records, rather revealing its secret! The real reason it broke the internet in the first place!

The egg has cracked! On Super Bowl Sunday over the weekend, the users behind the @world_record_egg account laid it all bare. Apparently, the egg was not just an egg as we all thought– it stood for something REAL.

At first, the egg was under the pretense of breaking Kylie Jenner’s ‘most liked Instagram photo’ record. For which reason, by the way, garnered over 52 million likes– wayyyy above Kylie’s 18 million likes for her baby’s first photo.

On Sunday, the New York Times revealed Chris Godfrey (29) as the user behind the famous egg account. Chris along with two friends, are advertising creatives, and they sure know how to do their job!

“When Chris Godfrey learned in early January that the record for “likes” on an Instagram post was held by the celebrity and businesswoman Kylie Jenner, he took it as a challenge. He remembers thinking: “Could something as universal and simple as an egg be great enough to beat that record?'”, the New York Times disclosed.

It’s all about mental health– shocking but heartwarming

So the whole ‘fuss’ was for a commercial in partnership with American streaming service, Hulu. The ad was jeered on explaining how social media can affect mental health.

With the egg at the center, the ad shared the story of how going viral had taken effect on its mind.

“The pressure of social media is getting to me,” the egg says in the ad. “If you’re struggling, too, talk to someone.”

The ad then directs viewers to the website for the nonprofit Mental Health America.

When asked why they used an egg, Chris replied, “An egg has no gender, race or religion. An egg is an egg, it’s universal.”

But this is not the end. ‘Eugene’, as fans call the Instagram egg, is set to relay more powerful messages with its social media presence. With its overwhelming 10m follower base, this should be a walk in the park.

“The pressure of social media is getting to me. If you’re struggling, too, talk to someone.”

The Instagram egg is possibly the world’s highest earning influencer

And when it comes to money, it is still unclear how much Hulu paid for this partnership. This Instagram egg, which is now an influencer, probably rakes in the most cash.

For instance, marketing experts had previously estimated a $10 million sponsorship cost for any brand that would work with Eugene the egg.

Moreover, “the cost of a 30-second ad spot during the Super Bowl this year was $5.25 million, reported Fortune.com.
