Jolie and Mark are back home safe

Travel bloggers, Jolie King and Mark Firkin, were detained in Tehran earlier this year for reportedly flying a drone too close to a military camp.

While they were away, it was feared they could go to prison for 10 years — per the decision of a show trial that usually lasted 15 minutes.

However, thankfully, the pair have been released and are already back in Australia.

In a statement, the couple said: “We are extremely happy and relieved to be safely back in Australia with those we love.

“While the past few months have been very difficult, we know it has also been tough for those back home who have been worried for us.”

Would they be glad to see their Instagram?

Throughout the period Jolie and Mark were in jail, there was a lot of ‘heat’ on their Instagram. Many people were worried for them, and even started a hashtag #FreeJolieKing to support.

Nevertheless, there were a group of Iranian trolls, who thought the pair deserved to be in jail for “trying to prove country is safe”. They believed Jolie & Mark had a “white saviour complex” and say they were “asking for trouble”.

“Cry me a river. Iran has every right to arrest anyone who violated the law particularly that puts their interests at risk.”

“If she did that in Israel, US, she might have been raped and killed even without any trace of her,” a user wrote

“You’re just asking for trouble. They knew very well it was illegal, and still chose to be the typical ‘white tourists who break the rules’.. well now you face the consequences,” another wrote.

A more reasonable user advised; “Let this be a cautionary tail that you must be careful when travelling to foreign countries that you must know all their laws and customs because you never know what they may find issue with.”

Others in jail in Iran

Although Jolie and Mark are out of the woods, a few others are still yet to be released.

“A second British-Australian, Kylie Moore-Gilbert, is still in prison,” the BBC reported. The professor, for instance, was said to be arrested for espionage, and has been held in solitary for a year.

Jolie in a statement asked for privacy, concerned that “intense media coverage” may not help efforts to free the others.
