Lexie started this journey when she was a child, and now she holds several records

Lexie Alford is truly ‘limitless’. After a long awaited trip to North Korea, she finally qualified to break the Guinness World Record held by James Asquith, who had visited every country in the world by age 24.

However, Lexie did not achieve this feat in a jiffy. Ever since she was a child, she knew she wanted this and began working towards it.

“Travel has been a part of my life since before I can remember,” she revealed. “My parents would take me out of school and place me on independent study for weeks and months at a time every year.”
Her family owns a travel agency in California and that fueled up most of her interest. In fact, she worked in this firm as a consultant after one year of traveling on her own.

The complete globetrotter further added, that she worked many jobs at the age of 12, just to save up enough to fund her dream.  “I always knew I wanted to take time off to travel so I’ve been working every job I could find and saving since I was 12-years-old.”

“I’ve always had a curiosity about other people’s ways of life and how they find happiness.”

Though she’s on her way to hold this record, Lexie says she didn’t plan to

She confessed to Forbes that her dream did not include breaking a world record. At least not until her internet presence, via her blog and Instagram, that she realized people looked up to her.

“Honestly, in the beginning, I simply wanted to push the limits of what I thought I could do with my life and see as much of the world as possible in the process,” she said. “It wasn’t until things started getting really challenging that I realized I was inspiring people around me, especially young women. Feeling that support meant that I couldn’t give up when things got tough. I was determined to show everyone that the world isn’t as scary as the media portrays it to be and that there’s kindness everywhere.”

She added that the thought first came to her in 2016, when she had already been to 72 countries. “I graduated from high school two years early and had gotten an associate’s degree from a local college. I was ready to start my gap year when I dropped the idea of going back to school and began to pursue the record full-time,” Alford explained.

And with determination, Lexie had covered over 90% of her journey by 2017, with only five countries left to go.

Meet Lexie Alford– Youngest person to ever travel the whole world!

And with funding, as already stated, Lexie caters for herself. The traveler uses a few techniques to cut down cost so she can afford her trips.

“I do a lot of research in advance to find the best deals, utilize points and miles for my flights, stay in cheap accommodation like hostels or create content for hotels in exchange for accommodation,” she stated. “I’ve also made sure to keep my monthly overhead as low as possible by living at home with my parents, I don’t have a car payment or student debt and I don’t spend my money on unnecessary material possessions.”

Moreover, her huge Instagram presence — where she has over 200,000 followers, have driven some brands to work with her. Lexie revealed that she’s done a few campaigns for travel-related brands, which put a little more money on the table.

“The countries that have such a bad reputation that people don’t dare to go are the places that spark my curiosity”

More specifically, Lexie Limitless cites countries like Pakistan to have changed her entire perspective. “I experienced so much more kindness and natural beauty”, she said, explaining that the media paints wrong images of some countries.

This trip has been about letting expectations take the backseat and replacing stereotypes with real experiences. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When most people imagine Iraq they can’t see past the danger. They’ve never actually talked to someone who has been there or even looked up pictures of the place. The way countries like Iraq have been portrayed on the news encourages people to write them off as just another war torn part of the world without thinking twice about what they have to offer.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ☾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since we arrived in Kurdistan we’ve been tasting foods that scare me, having tea with old men, meeting up with strangers from the internet and exploring green mountains and raging waterfalls. And of course, no trip to the Middle East would be complete without being invited into someone’s home for a family dinner. There’s castles and culture and smiling faces around every corner. Not another tourist in sight. Simply blows my mind. Iraq has filled me with excitement because there’s so much more to these unexpected places than we could ever imagine.

The traveler is working on more things now that she’s seen it all

Thankfully, Lexie Alford isn’t done with us yet. To share her experience fully with the world, @lexielimitless plans to write a book. Again, she says;

“I’m also going to start public speaking — my first TEDx talk is on June 15th.”

She as well co-hosted a travel show which is going to air pretty soon.

Meanwhile, Guinness World Record is still analyzing 10,000 pieces of chronological evidence, before officially naming Lexie as the youngest female to travel every country in the world.

Well done Lex!
