Rebecca Andrews: Blogger tried passing off as pregnant to avoid paying for luggage

A travel blogger made CNN headlines last weekend when she tried a newly discovered trick. Rebecca Andrews pretended to be pregnant in order to carry more luggage unto the flight without having to pay for it. Unfortunately, she was found out before being successful. Yet Rebecca remains unbothered. “Was I embarrassed? Not at all,” she said.

Rebecca made a video about the process

We all know it’s not easy having to leave things behind because they exceed the required luggage limits. Yet a rising travel blogger tried to beat the system using this ‘trick’.

To avoid paying an extra $60 luggage fee, Rebecca Andrews made a video guide on Instagram showing how she created a fake baby bump with some of her clothes, before getting on Australia’s Jetstar airline.

She celebrated a small success, however, when her baby bump managed to deceive one mother and some of the airline’s staff. In fact, she went through security with no problems.

“I have a small frame and decided pretending to be preggo was the most believable route to a successful hack… But in all seriousness, I think it is the laziest idea I have ever had”

Talking to CNN, Rebecca added that she thought the trick was not creative, to say the least.

“I think it is the laziest idea I have ever had — a woman’s body can create human life, so exploiting this unique ability we have to save myself $60 was just obvious. It’s quite an uncreative hack, really.”

In the video, Rebecca Andrews put on many layers of clothes and slid her laptop to her back

She couldn’t fit some clothes, her laptop and her charger into her bag. So she wore one of them (which was a stretchy jumpsuit) and wrapped another over her laptop charger. Then, she fit it onto her belly within the outfit.

Rebecca went on to slide her laptop at the back of her jumpsuit, before wearing a pair of jeans and a cotton sweatshirt over it. She topped it all off with a jacket, and you could swear she’d fool anyone.

Her plan worked until she was walking down the gangway and had to bend down to pick up her ticket.

“As I bent over to pick up the ticket, the shape of my laptop down my back suddenly became apparent,” she wrote in a blog post on Escape.

She eventually paid the fee anyway, after an air stewardess discovered her trickery.

“Was I embarrassed? Not at all,” says Andrews. “I felt like a bad ass. A hot pregnant badass.”

She also told CNN that it wasn’t her first time wearing many layers of clothes just to beat the baggage cost.

“I think a woman has the right to do whatever she wants with her body, including faking a pregnancy made out of laptop wires,” Rebecca explained.
