Famous popstar, Rihanna, has made some comments which have further reduced the worth of Snapchat by 5% overnight!
Once again, Snapchat has fallen in share value after Rihanna heavily condemned the app on Thursday. She expressed her utmost disgust for the app following an advertisement it displayed for the game “Would you rather”. In this ad, users were asked if they would rather “Slap Rihanna” or “Punch Chris Brown.” It appeared to make fun of the infamous domestic violence incident between Rihanna and Brown in 2009- Chris Brown’s conviction for assaulting Rihanna in his car in 2009 while they were dating.
The ad allegedly only run in the US and Snapchat disclosed that it was “published in error”. It was removed almost immediately and Snapchat apologized… but Riri had already been triggered.
This ‘joke’ was so tasteless to everyone, and within a few days, it caught Riri’s attention. The singer took to her Instagram and shared a story voicing out her strong dissatisfaction toward the ad. She started off by saying “Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb!”
The ‘Umbrella’ hit-maker, posted this on Thursday even after Snapchat had issued a brief apology on Tuesday stating that the ad violated its “guidelines”. She went on to add, “You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!! This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them…but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet…you let us down!”
“Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.” Rihanna blasts.
Snapchat already dug its grave, Rihanna just shoved them in.
Kylie Jenner called out Snapchat only a few weeks ago, after launching an update that most of its users disliked. This led to the app losing $1.3Bn in value yet it seems they haven’t learned their lesson. Hopefully, this backlash with Rihanna would serve as the last straw and Snapchat would finally get their act together.
