Scammed by an influencer? 11yo girl blows $4K on favorite TikTok influencer

Uh oh. An 11-year-old British girl has plunged her family into debt by falling for a hoax on TikTok. The young girl spent “about £3,500,” or $4,198, in a month, convinced she was lip syncing with her favorite influencer. Now her parents are livid and think she’s been scammed.

“It’s wiped out all my money,” her mother told Cambridgeshire Live.

Her name has been withheld for legal reasons, but the youngster really did a number with this one.

Her mother was shocked to discover that her daughter had racked up thousands of pounds in bills, with her card — something she knew nothing about.

“We didn’t realize that the card was attached to the account and so didn’t realize she was spending all this money,” her mother revealed. “We didn’t get any notification from iTunes or the bank even though she was spending hundreds of pounds a day.”

“It’s all the money I had, over £3,500 and all my overdraft, and now I don’t have one penny left for me and my family.”

Apparently, their 11-year -old was obsessed with a 24-year-old TikTok influencer, whose name’s also withheld, and made multiple payments to interact with him on the app.

How did she do this? And who’s this ‘influencer’?

Well according to reports, she used the money in purchasing coins on the app so that she and the influencer could lip sync together, and have private video calls.

Furthermore, a bill posted by Cambridgeshire Live shows rows and rows of transactions, some as much as £99.99 ($119.99)!

“I’ve now messaged [the man] from her phone, and said I was her mum,” her mother added. “He didn’t believe me, and he didn’t seem to care about the money.”

It turns out this so-called influencer sold several ‘drama queen’ gifts to the youngster.

“Videos show the influencer recording himself shouting “drama queen” when the girl sent him a gift,” the publication reported. And a ‘drama queen’ gift is worth £48.99 ($60.99).

She also paid for duets and private calls. There are screenshots of private messages between him and her, but nothing of sexual nature so far.

Scammed? Here’s what the police think.

The matter has been reported to iTunes, and the police. Yet have yielded little result, as sexual suggestions weren’t made to the minor.

A police spokesman said: “The incident was reported to us but no offences were revealed”.

However, her mother claims to have received £127 from iTunes but has not been able to get the rest of her money back.

She still believes her daughter has been scammed.
